zx five door roof bars

Post by 8304 »

hi

ive just bought some roof bars off e-bay to carry my kayak this summer.

They are meant to be for the five door type (they have not arrived yet) i was just wondering how they attach to the car - i puled down the rubber door seals and there are no fixing holes for a bolt or anything??

do they just have part that reaches into the door jam and then a nut thing that clamps it to the roof?

any ideas / anybody got a set

cheers

If they fit like 99% of other roofbars for gutterless cars, they'll have a shaped bit that fits round the cant rail, and , like you say, into the door jambs.

There will be some mechanism, depending on the manufacturer, for moving the shaped sections along the bar to fit the car and then tightening them: thus clamping the bar to the car.

Sort of like a very tidy looking sash cramp, in fact!!

Do you know what make they are?? You may find instructions on line, as they can sometimes be a bit bewildering at first sight

Just done the same for my Mazda 323. IF you've bought THULE roof bars then THULEs' web site have full fitting instructions for all their roof bars, foot pack & lock etc.

Can't remember the site detail but is prbably www.thule.co.uk

thanks for your replies...

they are genuine citrone roof bars.

they have a bent piece of metal which reaches into the door jambs and then an allen key which winds the ends on the bars together pulling them tight against the car and holding them on.

thing is though my car is a five door and the bars that have arrived are for a three door even though they said they would fit!!

it looks like i will be able to modify them to fit on the weekend though....
cheers
