Hi does anyone know if the ELM323 OBD2 Diagnostic Interface will work with a Citroen C5 2.0 as it would be great as I've just seen this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true
Or has anyone got any clues as to any other tool that can be used to check and reste the warning lights as I hate useing the Dealer (You never seem to lean anything)
Thanks
Jay

Don't know the direct answer but you'll probably find some background information here which may help. The bit that matters may well be the software - and the availability of updates.

It doesn't work, i have this Scantool, (though i don't remember the firmware version of the ELM chip).
Even thought it has an OBD-II compliant plug, the cables and protocol are diferent.

I forgot to mention my C5 is the 2.0 16V petrol not diesel406 V6 wrote:It doesn't work, i have this Scantool, (though i don't remember the firmware version of the ELM chip).

So has anyone got any ideas of a reset unit or diagnostic unit that I can buy without getting a lone on the house?
I haven't got the faintest idea. I could log on to my 406 too, and it's a petrol
Probably some dedicated scantool, but those cost an eye and a hand...

Right Jay -
A complete diagnostic tool will contain a dedicated adapter, some interface hardware and software which probably runs on any compatible PC under Windows.
Your C5 (and other computerised cars) takes advantage of the industri standard CAN-bus protocol - originally developed for machinery and robotics which takes heavy usage of electronics within a narrow area.
It is sort of the same idea used by Philips electronics having the I2C bus - where communication takes place between heavily specialised integrated circuits - within any electronic apparatus such as satellite TV decoders, TV sets etc.
I have no idea where you could purchase such equipment. But honestly - why not try a sneak on your Dealer ?
Most professionals are more than happy to tell about their advanced tools and methods used - servicing modern cars. In fact I think you could smalltalk the sales manager to demonstrate how easy it is to diagnose a brandnew Citroen C5 these days
That would instantly tell you :
1) Which parts the system comprises of
2) any manufacturer logo and system name would proudly be fitted on the parts (if not just Citroen)
3) how the main functions works on a PC
I'd say its a bit overdoing it though - if you're just nosy on whats going on in your C5 8)
Or to put in other words : its not laughing fun trying to reprogram your C5, and then suddenly while in the outer lane have a message on your C5 display reading :
"Windows experienced an un-expected exception error"
"please restart or shutdown your system"
