1.7 turbo diesel engine questions.

Post by rcflyers »

I have a 1995 Rover 218 SLD and i believe this is a de-tuned peugeot/citroen
1769cc turbo diesel engine. does anyone know how they de-tuned them or how to get back the "lost" power?
is it merely a lower boost pressure?
what should the max boost pressure be?
can anyone tell me where to get a boost gauge that reads 0-15 or 0-20 psi please?
also on mine, the rev counter redlines at 5000rpm, but mine runs out of
steam (hits a brick wall!) at approx 4000 rpm in all gears. has anyone else experienced this before?
could it be an air or fuel restriction?
thanks for any replies.

If it is the turbo version then it has 88 bhp as standard. The BX with the same engine has 90 bhp. The difference is due to different intallations, inlet duncting and exhaust lengths. You would never notice the extra 2 bhp if you could find it.

max boost is 11 psi on a £4.50 gauge from a local supplier!
