Citroen D5

Post by NeilPye »

I LOVE this car, supposedly the new C5/Lineage crossover for 2012. Not the normal hydropneumatic either, I hope this car aint the death of it..what you think???

That page has been around a long time.

I was under the impression that its "made up" by some Citroen enthusiast ? EG not real, but rather the work of a 3d modelling package and a vivid imagination

If you can find independant verification of it thats another matter, but I havn't seen any reference to it anywhere else...

(Also did anyone notice the way the article talks about the future in present/past tense ? )

"This car resembles far more closely the remarkable reinvention by Fiat of the 500 and X1/9 or that of Saab with the 99 of 2010."

Nice forgery 8)

Besides, did anyone really believe that Citroen would make a rear engine rear wheel drive car ?

But you've got to admit it's a nice restyling of the DS, following Citroëns new design rules... :D

Nice bit of artwork. If they were to make that with CX mechanicals plus hydractive and a good heater - they would sell a million!

Thats a good point about rear engined/real wheel drive, if it's a hoax I fell for it hook line and sphere, but then they say love is blind... Would prefer an original tho'. Citroen seem to have a habit of creating 'concepts' and not following them thro', maybe that's normal tho'. The 'moto' reference checks out tho' so I'm certain a motoring website that seems to cover alot of stuff (but it's all in french so I haven't a clue what they're on about) wouldn't jeopordise themselves. Citroen also want to distinguish themselves from Peugeot more so this would indicate support for authenticity. However, the departure from hydropneumatic is also strange (perhaps the pneumatic version is more compact) and it seems even more strange that it is aimed as a replacement for a mainstream model (C5) rather than a retro low volume (e.g. VW Beetle). I'm not convinced either that the D5 represents any form of crossover into the luxury/Lineage sector...Well, I like it alot and hope it goes ahead so my view is that its not a hoax but could be another Citroen concept dead end..we'll have to wait 6 long years, bets anyone?

Perhaps Clogzz, being one of our resident French speakers could have a browse through the French site it claims to be translated from ? I bet he doesn't find anything.... :)

And neither did he. :)

The only D5 they know about there, is a 5-cylinder diesel engine, used mostly in the Volvo:

Oh well, the dream is over..... Think I had my beer goggles on, my jaw hit the floor and I fell in love (sounds familiar somehow  ). Nice idea though, a far better 'retro' than that awful new Beetle that looks like it's going backwards all the time. Now I know I'm clutching at straws,in desperation, but maybe, just maybe it's a hoax of a hoax...(told you I was desperate) Could it be that in a couple of years...oh just stop... well it was nice while it lasted

Perhaps, just perhaps, someone with talent to modelling, and seeing our posts, will be willing to make a sale model for us, so we can have one by our bedside at night :)

French isn't my strong point, but I was given a French magazine [by a pal of mine who's family live out there] where this was the subject of one of the feature articles. The jist of it as far as I'm aware was this the result of a kind of student study into a future Ds which was illustrated by manipulation of photos that were actually based on a REAL silver grey Ds.

Trust me, I KNOW just how believable Adobe Photoshop can make things look - that's my job...

IMHO, the pictures in this case wern't even as good as they could have been done with a bit more time and care!! :)

Sorry to burst your alcohol induced bubble Neil!!

Thinking about it though, with the C6 doing a good job of a retro Cx, maybe Citroen will sit up and take notice of things like this, especially in their native marketplace IF there is the customer desire. The whole Citroen brand is starting to work now as more of a complimentary niche brand to Peugeot; where they're the more mass market provider. This was the main thrust of a recent interview I've read with the recently appointed PSA boss who appears to like the old great Citroens in the past...

If they can talk about production of a retrospectively styled rerun by contemporary manufacturing methods of the Miura anything's possible if the "suits" have the will and the desire is there in high enough levels in the marketplace...

Retro car design may be the way forward in Citroen's particular case. Although whilst it's being used extensively, with the case of the cynically designed frumpy Beetle almost having a detrimental effect on the case for NEW old designs, the other design approach that seems to be being currently applied by one and all is the Audi TT wheel arches, blobby body and sharp curves approach.

As everyone's now jumped onto the band wagon, seemingly the only way to separate manufacturers appart now is to make the front and rear badges bigger and BIGGER into an almost larger than life parody of the original branding/identlty. Cover the grille or badge on almost any new car from Frankfurt next week and try and guess who'dun it!!

If they're going to make the new Lambo why not a new Ds from Citroen!?

Andrew
