xsara 1.9D Fuel Gauge.........

Fuel gauge has been reading half full...then stop the car restart it and it says full....travel a bit further stop and it then reads empty???
Had a new feul sender put on but it still plays up...........any ideas

Could it just be a sticky needle.....I know when i fill mine to the top top top that on occasion when i start the car the needle gets stuck even higher than the full mark, bang on the dash and it goes back to normal.....a day later when the diesel level has dropped it doesnt happen

My first petrol Xsara VTR did this if parked on any kind of hill. Would read full for days. IT would then just sink back to empty ot half full. Can't think of any fix.
