TD engine block worn
My 10 year old Xantia 1.9TD engine has been taken apart. There is some wear on the upper part of the cylinder, estimate about 0.5 mm. Should I have the block rebore and fit sleeves or just put in new piston rings? Mileage is 210,000km.

In theory you should be able to get the block reborred and fit oversized pistons and piston rings.JohnCKL wrote:My 10 year old Xantia 1.9TD engine has been taken apart. If compression wasn't good before you took it apart, you're going to need more than just new piston rings, you'll need to do a proper job, rebore, new pistons and rings.
Thats quite a lot of wear and rings alone won't fix it- you need a rebore, hone, and new oversize pistons and rings. Its a standard fix in this situation, and as the motor is already apart you're nearly there anyway.
Any decent engineering workshop should be able to advise on what oversize to go to-2nd I should think!!!!!
