Try ask your old man if he remembers the DS/ID spheres. Here the damper unit was fitted as a threaded unit ...
Hi Anders,

Yes he does... he was an apprentice Citroen mechanic when the first D's came into the country in 1957  (and hence a life long addiction to Citroen's.... :) )

I'm also familiar with them having used them for front spheres on a GS, it certainly is handy being able to unbolt the damper and change the number/type of washers and refit it...

Unfortunately we don't have any DS spheres left as we sold the last pair to a chap with a DS after the last of our GS's were put out to pasture... :(
Would be nonsense to try remove it as new spheres are very cheap - and the vast selection of sphere types makes it possible to choose any modified suspension damping you want - at your own risc.
Indeed.

I didn't say it was a worthwhile occupation trying to remove them, only explaining how they are retained...

Usually if the sphere is the right type for the car the washer valves will be well calibrated for the car, and the most useful change in damping (softer or stiffer) is achieved by drilling or reducing the centre bypass hole. (But we've had this discussion before havn't we  8) )

Regards,
Simon

Hi John,

Thank you for this expert opinion. :D
Until now, I had been told that it was because it 'looked' like a crab. :?

Terry.
