Would a faulty lambda sensor cause an eratic idle and the engine management light to come on?
Mine seems to splutter and phantom rev. Just wondered if it could be the lamba sensor like someone suggested to me.
Regards
David.

do NOT try clean a Lambda sensor
- this would most likely destroy the surface layer.
The lambda sensor is only working when near red hot. You can not test it.
But you can unplug or replace it and observe if engine behaviour changes. There is a plug in the engine bay which is out of the way of the hot exhaust manifold.
Otherwise I'd say that any type of intake air flow/pressure sensor should be suspected on this symptom. Its one of the most common problems causing sudden unstable engine revs.
