Bike rack for C5

Post by civvie »

Has anyone had experience of fitting a bike rack to a C5. I was/am looking for the type that fits on the back window area, the one I had had clips that fitted over the rear door on my old Xantia estate. But looking at the C5 the back glass goes all the way up to the roof line, not sure if its safe to put the clips around the glass.
Comments appreciated

Hi Civvie,

I wouldn't recommend using the carrier if the hooks conact the glass.
I have worked in bike shops for years and have seen the damage this can inflict.
Be grateful that you don't have an AX, I've seen the bootlid ripped completely off on of those!!

I don't know if the C5 has a plastic bootlid or not but I would recommend the use of a carrier that mounts on the towball if you have one. These tend to be more expensive but hold the bikes much more securely and dont damage the car.

Look at www.pendle-bike.co.uk to get an idea of what I'm blethering about.

Cheers

Don't know if your C5 has a similar glass to my estate but I'd reiterate the previous advice- DO NOT put anything on the glass. I had a problem with mine not opening and a replacement was needed at over £300!! I was told that the glass was a conductor for the electrics and not any cabling. It seems very temperamental so if its working don't mess with it.
