Activa harsh ride ?

Post by tonyweill »

Hi
Have recently brought a 1996 Xantia Activa with slight accident damage.
Have replaced Dossuer Valve, Rear right suspension flexi hose, but the car was not level always sitting higher on the left front.
Have taken the car to an independant Citroen specalist, which they have regassed the five spheres but not suspension spheres, I have replaced the accumalator sphere which had a problem off taken 30 seconds for the stop light to go out, this has been cured to around 15 to 20 seconds but to me the ride is to harsh, have taken it back to citroen spec they say it is normal but to me the activa does not seem to be working as I thought as someone has already mentioned it should ride on rails.
Any ideas what I should do?

Yes they do run on rails when the system is working OK. Did the specialist plug in the diagnostic tester, that would examine the ecu for any faults. I had a problem with the system and my specialist found the steering sensor was not functioning.

Looks like you should be looking at getting the Activa control rods (at the front) adjustment reset. These are the rodes between the suspension and the anti-roll valve. These also affect the angle of the car when stationary.
Supposedly only Citroen can make the adjustments, but I managed it myself. Just make sure to note your original settings incase it all goes wrong. Speak to Citroen about he correct height settings once you are finished - the Activa should sit a couple of cm (approx) lower than a standard Xantia.

if the car was accident damaged is the anti roll bar or suspension arms bent ?? these are both critical to the roll corrector adjustment.if they are ok then like scheuerl said the roll corrector will need adjusted.i think you are allowed a 5mm differance in height at each side.after the roll corrector is set the regular height should be set in the usual way.

Hello!
As an Activa owner I think that Activa's suspension is a lot more harder than ordinary Xantias. So, perhaps you shouldn't wait for more...
Anyway it DOES go on rails !....
