Xsara knocking noise, near side front

Post by drpau »

Alright fella's I have a question for ye! Well, the Xsara has all of a sudden developed a knocking noise (knockers! 8-[ ) coming from the near side front. It does it when driving along a bumpy road - if its a nice smooth road you dont really hear anything from it, only when you hit an imperfection in the road - havent noticed it when cornering or anything. I did the obligatory search and I think from what other people have said that it is the 'droplinks'. Is this a fair assumption? Also, are 'droplinks' and 'anti roll bar connecting links' the same thing? If so it looks a fairly easy job to do myself, what do you reckon?

Your assistance is much appreciated gentlemen! =D>
Paul :)

p.s its a 99 Xsara sx hdi..

So If I get down under there and have a look and a feel will there be any play in it if its the drop links or will it be unnoticable to the touch?
Im guessing if one side is worn the other wouldnt be far off either so it makes sense to do the two at once..

You may be able to feel movement but not necessaraly,it may depend on the position of the suspension, but if you can twist the rod fairly easily the chances are its worn, and yes I would change both sides.

Chances are that even when you've removed it, there won't be much play to feel. It's amazing how much noise they can make for so little wear!
