Xantia engine mgmt goes nuts when cold

Xantia 2.0 automatic, 1998
When starting from cold, and usually within the first mile of driving, there's an almighty jolt in the transmission, power is lost and all 3 lights (ice/normal/sport operation)on the engine management system come on. The only solution is to stop and restart the engine. West London Citroen have had one stab at fixing this but failed. Have had this problem for a few weeks now so any ideas are welcome.

Would this be the one of those "fuzzy logic" boxes, sounds like it to me with the three modes of operation, could be simple wiring fault, go over all connectors from gearbox and ECU wiring to start with ensuring they are sound.
Don't know if control for gearbox is integral with engine ecu, probably is, try the BBA Reman. forum for any known faults with this system.
They will also test ECU's for you and sometimes provide a test hire unit.
