engine fault ?

1995 Xantia Break 2.0 VSX 16 valves
My engine fault lamp on the dashboard stays on for a while when I start the engine. After around 5 - 10 seconds it goes off.
Is it normal or does it mean I have a fault somewhere ? Should then a fault code be recorded in my Motronic 5.1.1 ?
This is the actual flow of events, at start :
First position of key : battery lamp on
Second position : all lamps on, oil and abs lamps go off in a while
Imobilizer code keyed in : the engine code lamp switches off and then back on
I start the engine : all lamps switch off, but the engine fault lamp which stays on for those 5-10 seconds mentioned above.
