Xantia Hdi Dead!

Post by Rostami »

Hi to all,

My trustworthy (?) EDC15 HDi engine packed up again!

I was on the Highway and suddenly the engine stopped. Parked the car and managed to get the engine running after a couple of starts, but the "engine electronics" light came on. The car drove me another 10km and then difinately stalled. The engine refuses to fire-up. Here is what I replaced in-situ (raining like hell):

- The Common Rail high pressure sensor
- The crankshaft position sensor
- The Diesel Filter
- Checked the low pressure pump in the tank and it is ok.

YES, I do carry all the above mentioned parts around with me!!!

Still the car refuses to fire up.
While changing all these parts (still raining like sh*t), I noticed that:
- The Deisel filter housing had plenty of water :(
- The high pressure CR sensor was full of a brownish crap...

Any ideas as to what is going on? Please don´t tell me it could be the high pressure diesel pump!

If the diesel filter housing has water in it, did you try changing the filter as if it gets enough water in it, it will prevent the fuel flowing through.

If it's one thing HDI's can't stand is crap and muck in the system. Is the tank contaminated? While your cranking it, get someone to wallop the tank with a rubber mallet - if it's a sticking low pressure pump this should fire it up. If there's water and wotnot in the filter housing you can't guarantee the high pressure pump isn't knackered, as could be the injectors.

Hi,

Thanks for your posts. Indeed it also did occur to me that a system operating at up to 1350 Bar would not really enjoy dirt and water...

The fuel filter is new, and I checked to see that fuel is being pushed out from it. I am really suspicious about the high pressure pump...let´s see what awaits me :(
