Looks nice. But can it run BX GTI brakes?? I thought they would have been lhm based and the zx dot fluid. Could be wrong though

what size are the BX brakes? I did notice that too. Wondered if it was a typo?

BX brakes

Post by Toddman »

I could be wrong but I was lead to beleive the only issue was the type of rubber used in the seals, i.e. LHM rubber and std rubber so I would expect some cars use the same calipers as the BX but with std rubber seals.
Just a thought

right this has really started to interest me & have got some questions, but can't seen to raise the owner to ask.

What gearbox is he using? (Standard V6 I assume)
Did he think about using a GTi-6 Box?
Which driveshfts / hubs is he using?
Is he using a remote servo?
Whats the torque-steer like?
etc

I'm sure I've seen calipers very similar to those on the front of a BX on the rear of a Golf GTi. I agree - a competent brake specialist can probably supply the appropriate seals - if indeed there is any difference.

Looks like the gearbox that came with the engine was used. Remote servo would solve many problems - Juguar used to put them underneath the back seats in the chassis on the Mk V11 - IX models - where predictably they corroded beautifully.

yes, waste of time. Don't get me wrong, great that hes done it, unique etc but it wouldnt go round corners! The v6 engine is over 70kg heavier than the 1.9 xu9j4 as far as I remember! One of them on throttle bodies, light head work and with fast road cams will result in the same power and a lot better handling.

The V6 is running 201Bhp (according to the book). And I have read it is all ali, I have spoken to the guy & he rekons is handles no worse than a standard ZX.
Sure push it hard & the nose breaks away sooner but nothing major

Apparently!

on the road perhaps, take it somewhere where you could drive it properly and there would be a massive difference between his and a identically powered 1.9, around a track for example. You could overcome some of it with decent suspension but still tricky. No wonder he has put such big brakes on :)

This reminds me that my friend used to have fantasies about an AX V6 sigh :D

lol put a V6 in a AX & it'll pull the front of the car off!

I assume they never went GTi-6 mad on the zx because it wasn't so popular?

Hadn't they sold the Zx to the Chinese by the time the GTi6 was introduced?
