HDI hesitant on small thottle opening

Post by tony1 »

I took a 2002 HDI 90 Berlingo for a test ride today, it is the first diesel I have driven. I noticed it was a little hesitant on small throttle opening i.e. as you pulled away. Is this usual, or should I look else where?

Sounds normal - at the front of the engine (on my xsara anyway) the end of the accel cable connects to a hmmm eletronic actuator type thing (its name escapes me right now), if you tighten up the cable a bit it really makes a difference to the throttle response. I tightned this on mine and it made it feel much livelier. I assume it will be the same for the berlingo....

Cheers

A 'potentiometer' is what its called, same things as they used in to vary the volume in radios when I was alive. Its a bit like booting up a computer - it takes time to respond.

Implying that you now aren't alive?

Que?

As for the hesitant HDI engine.... it could also be crud from the EGR valve choking the engine at very light loads. Seen this in a 1.9TD engine, and there's no reason why an HDI wouldn't suffer this way too.
This is not a signature.

You call this living! I'm talking about the days when I could rush around and take an engine out before tea!
