XM Fuse Panel

Post by Jade Falcon »

The Primary fuse panel in my XM seems a little awkward to get to. I've noticed some cars, you can pull the fuse panel out. For instance in my previous car, a Vauxhall Cavalier, the bottom part of the panel tilted, allowing you to access the panel easily. However, I'm not sure you can do that with the XM's, plus I didn't want to force it. Where it's sitting now, it seems it is very difficult to access the top row of fuses.

Is there any way of moving it?

Be grateful you don't have a LHD. I have to stand on my head under the steering wheel with a lamp strapped to my forehead to be able to see ANY of the fuses!

An LHD?

I've heard that Citroen seem to have the knack of putting things in the most inaccessible places.

The easiest way I found was to unscrew most of the plastic trim panels that surround it. What looked like one or two screws ended up being 5 or 6 and then the fuse I needed to check was under the bonnet

I would say that the interior fuses tend to be OK, but mine wsa one of the very few that had everything working - apart from the usual drivers window that affects all mark 2s.

My electrical problems are the aircon being intermittent, the passengers side back door window (the drivers window has never failed) and the electrically adjustable mirrors.

The air con could be due to low refrigerant pressure, enough to make it work, but not to keep it going. Happened on my old XM '93 TD12.

Got hit by a Volvo F12.

Solved ALL the problems (for me)!

The insurance claims assesor actually wanted to see the A/C clutch engage to ensure that my claim that it had working A/C was true! (It did engage - for a while! long enough for him, that is).
