Hi all, i've finally gone and done it and bought my dream BX, a GTi 4x4.
The only problem i've got with it is a tendancy for it to hunt between 500 and 1000rpm at idle. It does this constantly, up and down. Obviously at 500rpm the car is viberating. Under normal use the car is fine
When its first started it dies unless its revved gently.
Any ideas?

Hi
On my Audi there is an Idle Stabilisation Valve. It's actually missing on mine so until I manage to track down a cheap replacement, it suffers the symptoms you mention. Don't know Citroen's well enough but there must be a similar set up I'd've thought?
Does what you say when cold although it does tend to settle when warm.

When the automatic choke is on its ok so its only when the choke is off and the car is warmer. Even after the 400miles of motorway driving i've done this weekend its still hunting.

All those PSA Gti engines do that to some extent.
It can be sorted up to a point with an air flap sensor thingy, cant remember the proper name Im afraid.
My old Visa 115ch GTi did it like no-ones business. And so did my 8v Gti BX but the 16v's were fine for some reason.

Hi Guys,
the 16valvers have a idle stepper motor ... they can stick and cause hastles.
You could possibly have major wear in the AFM track.

Are you certain there is no leaks in the idle circuit anywhere ??
seeya,
Shane L.
