Coolant Type

Post by cosb6 »

Hello,
First time I've posted since the site moved, so I've been all confused today..

My question is hopefully simple. I need to topup the Coolant on our 2001 Y Plate Xsara. Do these all use Ethlyn Glycol type coolant, or will it be the more modern OAT stuff?

I imagine the former... but would like a 2nd opinion...

Thanks
Stuart

What colour is it? If it's blue, then it will be EG, Citroen OAT stuff is a very light straw colour. It should tell you in the handbook anyway. But...why are you having to top it up :?:

Give GSF a try if your up for buying some. Last year I bought some for my Xsara after doing a thermostat change. It was the original Citroen brand, with the logo all over the bottle. Cost a couple of quid cheaper than the Citroen dealer by me. :)
The wifes got a C4 I've got a ZX TD SX!!!!

It's about 1/2 way between MAX and MIN.... thought I'd top it up to MAX for Winter...

It's done 10k since we've had it... and it wasn't on MAX when we've got it.... so I'm not too concerned about the level dropping by such a small amount.... at least I assume I don't need to be...

Pretty sure it's bluey in colour..... I'll double check, and then get some....

Thanks...

If the car is still running on its original coolant, I would say that its well due for a change, especially if its ethylene glycol based. The corrosion inhibitors will be well past their best by now.

It's got a full Citroen Service History... so I guess it should have had it done....
