Xantia hydraulic failure?, no brakes/suspension! pump fault?

Post by peter007 »

I have a citroen xantia 1.8 dimension petrol p reg (96?) was just driving along and light on dashboard came up (oil pump light I think) brakes went bad and also suspension doesn’t rise. I believe the back won’t come up off the ground like its ment to. Do I need a new oil pump to fix it or is it something else? i have a second similar xantia aside for spares, should I take something off that to fix it? Is there anything i can check for? Any solutions or advice , thanks

Have you checked the simple things like the LHM level? A sudden loss of fluid is not unknown on Xantias. Is the aux belt ok? Could well be the HP pump though as exactly the same thing happened to mine.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

If it was wet when it happened it could be water on the pump drive belt making it slip, if the problem has remained the belt could be slack + what stempy said.
