The heater matrix may well be gummed up and need flusing or replacing. Are you cerain the heater control is opperating the valve as it should to let hot water into the matrix, sometimes the cables snap/jam.
Use the Search function, as replacing the matrix has been covered in depth before, and i think the controls have also been covered - though are covered in the Haynes book.
Hope that no one has bodged the heater by "bypassing" the water pipes to fix a leaky matrix!
Good Luck

I had a similar problem which turned out to be the a jammed open thermostat, meaning the coolant never actually got hot enough to heat the cabin efficiently.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

The pollen filter is under the glovebox. There may be a piece of carpet under there,so remove that,& then on the left hand side will be a plastic cover, held in by 3 screws.Remove the screws & plastic cover & pull out the old filter.I`m not sure if it only fitted to cars with a/c or not.

I now realise that the air is warm as opposed to hot at the highest setting. Does this mean anything that hasn't already been mentioned

The hose goes from the thermostat housing into the firewall.
As you look over the engine from the front of the car, it is to the left of the LHM tank, disappearing behind the engine into the firewall.
The hose is over 1 inch thick and is the highest placed hose at the rear of the engine bay, just where you want it to trap air.
The nozzle has a serrated button to turn by hand, and also has a slot in the middle to insert a flat-bladed screwdriver.
There are differences depending on the model and vintage.
It might be an idea to prompt for the opinion of the experts, who know all the variants, even looking the other way.
