Hi, I currently have two Citroens the first a BX16 TRS f reg which the engine cuts out and restart while driving :? have been advised it could be either the distributor or the carburetter :?: has anyone experienced this and could give some advise.
The second purchased 4 weeks ago a Xantia SXi 16v 1995 n reg decided to break it's cambelt  last week. is this worth getting it repaired?

Regarding the BX, my suggestion is to do a systematic fault finding.

Start with all electrics first, make sure that the distributor cap is ok, check the sparking plugs, HT leads, transistorized ignition module, etc. If all is ok, then the carb should be looked at. Is the car overheating? Also check the fuel pump...

For the Xantia, it all depends on how well the actual engine you have was serviced. If you are an experienced DIY, then it may be worth the effort. Otherwise it is not worth repairing, and you can find a good engine in the scrappy...

I once had the paper gasket disintegrate on a BX16RS and bits got sucked into the jets.

That didn't make it cut out in my case, just no power.

You can (could?) get a repair kit consisting of the gasket and rubber seals.

Had a similar problem a long while ago on an'85 BX TRS - it turned out to be the ignition switch making and breaking when it felt like it!
