Just purchased Xantia 1.9td sx, works fine apart from when accelerating 0 - 2k revs engine smokes and loses power (as if its blocked) then as soon as the turbo kicks in, usual puff of smoke and no smoking, also large smoke cloud on starting (usually overnight).
Any suggestions, thanks in advance

What colour is the smoke, black or blue.
Have you had any motors with this engine in before, if not you might just have discovered turbo lag, they don't feel much like doing anything below 2000 rpm, then woosh, off they go, hopefully.
If there is black smoke before boost is up it could be getting too much fuel, someone may have been tampering, timing could be out or injectors stuffed, but start as John suggests with the air filter plus fuel and oil filter's before doing anything else.
Find out how old the timing belt is, if you can't confirm this change it to be on the safe side, or it might smoke plenty more if you are unlucky.
