My car has done 147,600 miles, and ever since I got it the clutch biting point has been right at the end of the travel - I hardly need to move the clutch down to change gear.
Is the clutch on its way out, or does the pedal need adjusting? The day we got the car the clip snapped, and was repaired before I'd ever driven the car - my father says he noticed no problem with the clutch when he test drove the car the day before the pedal slapped prior to purchase. Does it just need adjusting? I sometimes get 'juddering' when changing gear at speeds below about 35mph.
If, as I suspect, its due a new clutch, how much would I be looking at for the whole job at a citroen specialist? We'd do it ourselves, but its apparently a very long job and we just don't have the time at the moment.
Cheers!

To check the adjustment of the clutch, measure from the centre of the foot pad to a point at the low edge of the steering wheel. Depress the pedal to the floor and measure again to the same point on the wheel. Take one measurement from the other, and the difference should be 150mm. If it isn't do the adjustment at the clutch end of the cable. If a new clutch is required, and you don't fancy the job yourself, why not try one of the clutch centres. A Citroen dealership will charge the earth!

Not sure what a clutch replacement place would charge - but if they're anything like the ones we tried to get to replace the clutch on a BX 16TRS a few years ago they'll all want a fortune 'cause they don't like working on hydraulic Citroens! We ended up doing the job ourselves and the kit cost about £50 at the time.
A Citroen specialist will be by far your best bet - they'll be able to do it quickly and minimum fuss. Post where you are in the UK and someone will suggest a reputable specialist in your area. I would've thought a clutch change wouldn't be more than about £200.

I,ve been looking into this recently because my 1.9D Xantia Estate has a slipping clutch and its at the end of the adjustment. It's supposed to be a seven hour job to replace a clutch on a Xantia, I suspect that would mean about three days for me. I struggled to find many clutch centres in the Coventry area, there seems to be only one left. They quoted about £400. The AA service centre (ex Halfords) quoted £500+. But a local dealership which has just stopped selling Citroens but still services them quoted me £350 inc VAT today, although they did say the price on the screen was £580 but they never charged that because it was too excessive. I also found one clutch centre in London who provide online quotes and they came back with about £250 inc VAT, but they were too far away to use.
They were www.clutchdirect.co.uk.
Hope this is helpful.
