IR Emitter for Xantia Plip

Post by Evodad »

Guys,
Can any one please tell me which infrared emitter to buy for my Xantia plip?
Remote locking stopped working. Removed the little PCB from the plip & noticed that one of the leads from the emitter to the PCB had broken. Did a bodge with "structural solder". I'm expecting it to break again, would like to solder in a new part, but there's so many different ones, all looking the same on the Radio Spares website. Does anyone know which one or even which type to get?
Thanks,
Roy E.

TIL 38 will do well.
Til 100 is the standard high output emitter. Gives more range
CQW13 from Farnell is a monster in its own lensed case. More directional but will open the car from an adjoining planet. Note that the part is directional and use a magnifying glass to have a good look before replacing it.

One from and old TV remote should suffice if you cant get hold of a new one.

Got a TIL 38 equivalent IR emitter from Maplins in Derby yesterday (58p!).
"Carefully" removed the old one from the PCB, but still managed to break one of the tracks on the board!
Fitted the new one, taking note of what you said Tom about polarity (the flat on the side of the transparent plastic housing goes on the LHS). Ran the lead for the broken track to another point on the track.
Fitted it back in the plip, worked perfectly!
Tom, Peter, thanks for your help.
