This type of Front end Bernie?
YES

10MM nut under cover (top) and hex screw bottom- same on other side is what you neet to remove in order to free the catch and replace the cable. Sadly only accesible with the bonnet open.

The cable - the only bit where its accesible in the engine bay, right by the NS lamp.
Good luck.

Marty I'm trying to place the last picture as that's where I need to be at.
Could you possibly take another picture so I can see where in relation to other bits.
Do you think this area is best coming from under the engine or from the front?
Is your the TD model with intercooler? If I can somehow remove the air pipe beside the battery do you think i could get to the cable?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the offer Alec, as I said to Marty any photos will help or try yourself to access the cable with the bonnet closed and see if it's possible when it's open

If the HA2 threads are anything to go by, he will keep us in suspense for 2 days before telling us. [:D][:D]

Ok Ok
This is how:-
Remove indicator lamp
Release trim from under lamp
Remove lower H/L screw
Remove torx screw and 10mm bolt from inside front bumper.
Lever up the bonnet and remove the 2 top screws from the H/L and move it to the right.
NOW you can get a hook on the release cable and just pull, simple!!!
Took 2 evenings and a whole Saturday
