Stuttering ax gt

Post by alexgt40 »

Hi, new to the site, hoping someone can help??
Having a few running probs with my 89 ax gt! It only seems to happen when i'm accelerating uphill or in too high a gear, the engine seems to be misfiring. It clears when I drop down a gear or when i'm real gentle with her(overtaken by wheelchairs etc) but where's the fun in that? The car has a twin weber carb and K&N filter, the rest of the bay is pretty standard! Any ideas???
ps I've already had the carb jets checked by citroen and they say they're clean??
Thanx alexgt40

Plugs and plug leads would be my next port of call.

What about fuel supply problems - eg filter or pump?

couple of suggestions before you actually buy any new bits...........
Run the car in the dark, bonnet up, see any arcing from leads or caps?
Second pull the plugs and check the colour, if anything other than the usual light brown, or one different etc report back.

Years ago a mate of mine had problems with his AXGT where it would stutter when under hard acceleration using the 2nd barrel of the carb, it was eventually tracked down to small particles of corroded aluminium in the float chamber clogging up the carb. A strip down and proper clean out fixed it.

Thanx stinkwheel, but no success. No arcs or sparks visible, will pull the plugs next!
