ZX Reflex longevity
How long (and I know its a rough guess!!! lol) can I expect my 1993 ZX Reflex 1.4i too last? Its very well maintained and valeted weekly. Just got me thinking as its on the verge of the magic 100,000 mark. I was considering selling her but Im guessing with that mileage and petrol engine shes worthless??? So think I'll run her into the ground. What sort of milage could a well maintained 1360cc ZX engine run too? I've seen one on autotrader with 121,000. Also, now the ZX is really getting on a bit is anyone aware of specific age related problems cropping up?? rust etc.

My feeling is that most cars 'die' due to a low value leading to people not maintaining them properly; rather than age/mileage.
I have seen cars with the same engine with 160,000 miles on the clock, still sounding sweet.
In short, keep it well maintained, it should last a good while but if and when something big goes, then you have to decide whether it is worth spending the time or money on it.
I would always repair rather than replace but that's just me - I don't really like the disposable society we live in nowadays.

I had one with 181k on the clock, and it ran better and was smoother and quicker than another I had with less than half that on the clock. The car was owned by 2 people, the second of which was a garage, and was used as a loan car for the last 120k miles. I then paid £80 for it, used it for the remainder of the tax (about a month) and sold it on. To the best of my knowlege its still pottering about.

Glad to hear it!! Got to admit that mine is getting a bit grumpy of late as she is due a service (tomorrow, weather permitting!) and coolant change as I have spare bottles of Citroen Antigel in the garage. Even after 5 years and 60,000 miles plus I still love driving her and haven't notice any real deterioration either mechanically or bodily....indeed after a through scrub up it doesn't look like a 12 year old car...enough to fool some (admitidly car ignorant) friends of mine into thinking it was maybe 5 years old!!!!!!!! hehe....they look stunned when I told them.
