Just had my MOT done, new computerised one, but it failed. Bulge on NSF tyre, that will be the cause of the knocking noise then i guess. Also centre exhaust has a major leak, so it says on the fail report. Tested says its got a crack in it and a minor note about play in the NS steering rack.
Any idea about good tyres and can the exhaust be repaired or am i looking at a new one.

You can patch the exhaust or use a bandage, seehttp://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm, but it really depends on how bad/where the blow is, and a bandage will only be very temporary anyway, so its probably just as well to get a new section. Best to eyeball it and make up your own mind!!
I don't know about what tyres best for a Xantia, I'm probably not the best person to ask as I go for wear resistance/longevity rather than grip-(slow car).....but do a search on here and there are endless postings about tyre choice!!!
