How difficult do you think it would be to make a set of clear lenses for the rear lights of a zx?? I've seen these:

a couple of times but noone seems to be able to shed any light (boom boom) on them.

What's that grill covering the back window? Back in the 1980's I use to see Escort's, Astra's, 900's and the like with those "grill's" fitted, But I havent seen them for years now (until the picture today). Imo kind of cool in a tacky-retro kind of way. Annyone got any idea's of what they are called?

Top tail grills - gives at least extra 8Bhp because of the better air flow over the chassis. They disappeared from cars in the '80-es as the owners wanted more sophisticated solutions - such as +20Bhp computerchips - which could simply be glued on to the rocker cover safely. No hassle with tools just a drop of superglue.
The string seen at the LHS rear lamp is the emergency brakes anchor - in case you cant bring down the speed safely. This car type should however have 2 such devices. I fear due to sloppy maintenance the owner of this car would not be able to get down the speed some day - caused by a true run-away.
The 2port exhaust porting is however a complete mistake - because they take some 4Bhp off the engine - because of the flow diversion loss. This was already widespread known during the '90-es. Instead you should go for this solution - a very effective and modern approach :

Anything is possible as the owner of that ZX has proved, but would you want to?

Uh - huh...
I always thought these black grilles were used to prevent direct sunlight from overheating the interior... Obviously, I was mistaken, never realizing their aerodynamical qualities[:I].
It may be worth mentioning that where I live, the performance improvement of any such high-tech modification is not measured in bhp, but in "kangaroos" [:D].
Example?
Blue LEDs = +20 kangaroos
Oversized alloys = +50 kangaroos
False air intakes = +30 kangaroos
etc...

in my opinion clear "lexus style" rear lights only look good when darkened and on lexus's, all other cars with them should be scrapped :) It sickens me when I see 205 gti's for example which look best as standard and someone has ruined them with some clear rear lights. First thing I would do if I bought a car like that would be to flog them on ebay and get some standard ones! The only lights worse are the ones a bloke at work has on his Punto, they stick out like small tubes for each light individually (vertical row down the side of the boot), shocking!

Is that a Chinese ZX? The website displayed on its number plate comes up as Beijing Car Solution and refers to diplomatic and ex-pat sales so perhaps there is a source of parts there where the ZX would be still current and manufactured by one of those Chinese companies that cropped up in the never ending Rover saga.
Personally I'm not averse to it and quite like the lights. While the ZX design is pleasant enough and I'm sure never offended anyone I don't imagine it has ever excited anyone either which may have had something to do with its relatively short lifespan and subsequent sale to the Chinese.

The Chinese writing on the buildings in the background is a bit of a give away, isn't it.

Right, I've hd a bit of a poke about on tinternet & can't find any other info, other than that pic. However, has anyone looked at Mk3 astra back lights? or Seat Ibza's? they look pretty close to me.
I might have a play when up the breakers next.
