I mentioned the other day in a thread about being told to change the water pump as a precaution at the same time as the timing beltbut no one came back to me.
I would like to know if that's sound advice?
My car runs cool has no leak ,has 123,000 miles ,and now runs sweet.
Cambelt change is purely preventitive.
What do you guys think, and whats a fair price for changing belt/pump?

I never heeded this advice as I had never had a water pump fail, until I bought my latest XM, 114k and a new cam belt fitted, good, I thought, I wont have to touch it for 72k, 5k later the water pump went, fitted new belt, 10k later head gasket went, fitted another new belt. For the sake of the hassle involved, change it!

Well timed post - I have today changed the belt, water pump and both rollers in my 106D at 103k (second belt change). The belt, of course, looked perfect, as were the heavily made (and quite expensive) rollers, with their sealed ball bearings. The pump was a mess, and had obviously had a slow leak over a long period as there were crusty blue deposits below the vent hole.
These pumps are not easy to get out of the block (strong measures required) but at this mileage it was very obviously due for renewal.
