My Dad's 1994 SX 2.0 definately doesn't have ABS, no computer, no sensors, no place to mount the sensors. According to what I've read, only the VSX, Exclusive and Activa had ABS in Mk1, while in Mk2 the SX also has ABS and air bags as standard. (But not Hydractive 2 or Electric seats...)
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Then might I suggest it is not an SX?
My 1994 2.0 SX had ABS - I had to replace the ECU. Late in 1994 they chanced the ECU. The early ones were about £800 (this was in 1998) the later ones were about £400. Just my luck that I had the earlier one.
When I bought my first Xantia I did my research, I wanted ABS and the lowest model with ABS as standard was the SX. The exception was the N/A 1.9D which didn't.

What does the ABS warning lamp look like and where on the panel is it?
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
It's a yellow slippery road symbol. If you shine a torch at the lamps you should be able to make it out. All the cars will have the lamp though even if they don't have ABS.

No, it's definately an SX. No doubt about it, it even says so on the original registration papers. (And it was sold new in this country so that was its first registration)

Maybe it varies by country then, because all the (Mk1) SX's I've seen over here don't have ABS. It may be available as an *option* on the SX however...
Also have a look at this page:
http://www.myweb.com.au/citroen/sub_xantia.htm
It refers to the australian Mk2 Xantia's and says that ABS is now standard on the SX. (Implying that it wasn't in earlier models)
As far as I know the LX model was never sold in New Zealand or Australia, and I've certainly never seen one for sale...

Jim,
If you test the abs and find that it doesn't work, do a little digging around on the forum - somewhere there's some threads which show the sensor connection pins in the big plug that goes to the ECU. My using a multimeter, you can quickly and easily see if one or more of the abs sensors is faulty. Could be that a previous owner disconnected the ABS system to try and sneak it under the radar at MOT time, but you'll cop for it now.
I had a problem with my rear left cable - it had been worn through from rubbing on the wheel ( the night before MOT ). I got some bull-nose connectors and sockets from an electrical store, cut the wire near the wheel, put thee on, and it worked and passed the MOT.

My '94 is a special edition, Dimension SX and has no ABS.
It doesn't have electric rear windows which I believe the SX should have, it seems to be one of those special editions where you get less equipment than standard...

Dimension was based on the LX with a few SX bits thrown on. Foglamps, height adjustable drivers seat (I think) and maybe some other bits. I remember them because I was using the presence of foglamps to pick which cars to look at when wandering the auctions.

My Last Xantia was a 1.9TD SX registerd early 1995 on an N plate and it had ABS, my current one a 1.9TD sensation doesnt its a March 1999 ,on a T plate, but then although it's a Mk2 it's based on the LX which I don't think has it .

My Dimension has an SX badge and the paperwork also shows it to be an SX too, but obviously it isn't an SX.

Interesting,
My Dad's "SX" which doesn't have ABS does have electric rear windows....so it can't be a Dimension SX in disguise...
I guess the answer here is that there are a lot more variations per "model" than we thought... and quite likely some of them country specific, so the moral of the story being check out whether the specific features you want are present, rather than relying on the model designation...

Simon

Looking at that spec sheet the Australian market SX had some things missing compared to the UK SX and other things (such as automatic wipers) which were only ever found (in the UK) on the Exclusive.
I doubt we have many Australian market Xantias over here but there is the possibility of grey imports which may be Mainland Europe spec but RHD.
I should add that toward the end of the Xantia run they started fitting all sorts of optional extras as "standard".
Still simpler than the BX lineup.

According to the Parkers website the SX only had ABS as an option, only being introduced as standard in 1999. How accurate that data is I am not sure.....
On the other hand you could always bung your VIN number in here to see what equipment you have:

Its common practice for manufacturers to fit so called options as standard - I'm sure no-one actually ordered my BX estate with it - it was just on the car that was available for purchase at the time it was wanted.
Many BMC cars of the early 60's listed the heater as an option - but I never saw one without it.
Now paying for its another matter and could form the basis of some bargaining - since the abolition of car tax it isn't as easy to work out what the dealer's margin is. (was 10% of factory gate price - so simple arithmmetic gave you the factory gate price! - quite interesting actually)
