2.1 td auto gearchange

my xm takes a long time to change up through the gears 30+for second -40+ for third and 50+for fourth.the gearbox has been completely rebuilt with new valve block and torque converter.all problems have been eliminated with the gearbox and the problem seems to be with the cable settings on the injector pump.if i follow the settings in the haynes manual the car will not change to a higher gear and gives all the symptons of fuel starvation although this is deffinately not the cause.any help on this matter would be gratefully recieved.

Hello My XM has the following change points

1st gear to 2nd= 20 mph
2nd to 3rd= 35 mph
3rd to 4th= 50 mph
