CLUNKING NOISE

Post by CITMAN »

I have 1995 citroen zx 1.4i with 70000 miles on the clock. Everytime I let the clutch pedal up from a standstill there is a clunking noise. It also does this when changing gear, and when I accelerate it clunks and decelerate it clunks.
Does anyone know what this fault is.

Sounds like the engine/gearbox can move a bit and is hitting something or, more likely, the exhaust is hitting somthing because the engine moves about. I'd bet on the engine/gearbox supports.
Have fun,
Niek.

Could also be the bottom inner front wishbone bearings, that's where the torque from the front wheel drive is take up in the chassis.

I have the same problem on my zx. I have replaced both the sets of wishbone bushes on the LHS curing a one sided cluck i had but I have looked underneath and I'm sure the rear engine mounting is knackered. I have been advised to take it to a citroen specialist to have anew insert put in. Cheaper than replacing the whole mounting apparently which requirea the removal of the right hand side driveshaft etc.
