Engine faullt light

My orange engine faullt light came on tonight when I booted my Activa in third, foot right to floor .
Engine seemed to miss at about 3,500 rpm ,go a bit flat, then the light came on but disappeared after 10 secs.
Anyone had same symtoms.?
This flat spot is really getting me down!!!!
First time the light has come on though
P.s. the light has always stayed on at first, but has never come on while driving it.

The best thing to do is to get the fault codes read, it may save wasting time following 'red herrings'.
