XM Brake Pedal modification?

Post by stuartb »

Hi,
I know about the well known brake pedal mod for the Xantia (removing the spring from the spacer/pushrod to improve the feel).
I did this on my Xantia and I love how the brake pedal feels.
The question is, is there a similar mod for a series 2 XM (rhd) because I hate the springy feel of the pedal on mine?
Thanks,
Stuart

I'm not sure about the RHD XM, but on my LHD version ('98) the spring arrangement was exactly the same as my old series 1 XM, i.e. same as Xantia. Just pull out the plastic cylinder and remove the spring - you can adjust the height of the pedal by fitting different lengths of tubing instead (12mm dia. copper water pipe or similar).

NiSk,
Thanks for that. Unfortunately the RHD models use a different arrangement with a strange linkage near the windscreen wiper motor!

Stuart, you will probably find the springy feel is due to the cable connection from the pedal to brake valve. It is a bit disconcerting to think we relay on a cable as though it were a bicycle! I still love mine though. Best wishes, R

Robin,
Thanks. I've just managed to get a look at the parts microfiche and I see what you mean.
Oh well, it doesn't stop it being a lovely car to drive!
Cheers,
Stuart.

Does this mean that there is no 'spring' to remove from the RHD XM ?
