Hello everyone,
I'm sure that this has been discussed before but a search revealed no direct topic hit.
So, what sort of mileage do people get out of a set of brake pads ?
I seem to be eating them up.
Thanks,
Mat.

215k km (135k miles) on one set of brake pads? That has GOT to be a record!
I've had some cars that eat brake pads, using up a set in 10k miles, but then I've had other cars (the 405 most noticeably) that takes a good 40-50k miles to use a set. I've never had more than abotu 50k from a set of pads.
My father used to drive ridiculous distances for his job, most of which were on the motorway, and so he barely used his brakes at all. Most of his company cars were vauxhall's, and they used to do about the same (40-50k miles) on a set. I've never heard of more than that on any car (until now that is!)

I think at times the driver has a lot to do with it.
I had a Mazda E2200 that I used for both work and private use and it still had the original shoes after 500K klms. The CX I had were pretty good until it became the wife's car and then proceeded to take out a set of pads in 18,000 klms.
The Xantia I quoted was used by the previous original owner to commute about 125klms each way on the highway every day and I use it for overall driving of about 50/50 around town and country work but having said that, I am exceptionally easy on the brakes and having been both a competitive driver and a Driving Instructor, I tend to back off well before I have to start really standing on the pedal.
I also think bedding the pads properly when new and regular servicing to keep them free of dust also helps.
