VALVES WANTED!!!!!

Post by citroenxm »

Hi. With reference to my earlyer post. Got the head off the Xantia 16 valve 1.8i tonight, and as told, valves had bent, but unfortunally, 14 of them!!!, only 2 inlets had survived... The guides had survived too, and just the heads had bent ....
Has ANY ONE got a full SET of Valves, 8 inlet and 8 exhaust valves I could buy off them PLEASE ...
Many thanks

New valves from citroen are not that expensive, a couple of squid each if I remember from buying 2 for a TUD3. Granted you'd be looking at about £40, but that's not drastic for a new set of valves.

Mmm. Checked on GSF and the Exhausts were 9 quid each!! and inlets were 5.80 Each!! Making it pretty high.. Thanks for the reply, I am also waiting for a reply from a motor factor lately.. 40 quid or so is fine as for cost....

There used to be a whole group of specialists who would supply things like engine valves, bearings, pistons and the like. I think a number of them have folded recently but presumably some are left. The name Ferraris pistons comes to mind as I keep seeing their green van but I think they are trade only and I seem to remember searching this subject in an idle moment at work without much luck - however a good search on Google or even yellow pages may throw up something interesting.
Failing that - how much would a head from a breaker cost.

Unless you run into a stock clearance - I cant believe you can get a valve set cheaper than the GSF price.
What would a scrap head (from busted HG) - even a recon head cost you ?

Surely you could get a whole Xantia for £240. I hope you told them where to insert themselves.

Ferraris Piston Services (I think based in Southampton, but may be elsewhere too) are indeed trade only. They will only sell to you if you are an engine reconditioner, or a motor factors (with 2 delivery vans minimum!) I checked this out a while ago, as they are the only place who stock parts for a perkins 4-203 from the '60s.
However, if you are friendly with a local factors, they might order the bits for you at cost. I've had this done a couple of times now.
I don't suppose the valves you are after are the same as fitted to XUD engines? I have dozens of them kicking about, but nothing from a petrol engine at all. sorry!

I would have thought a recon head for £120 was good value - particularly as you can be sure there are no surprises in store when you come to do the job. Grinding in new valves would be fun - and there is always the possibility that one or more seats will need to be cut - which will probably only become apparent once you start grinding.
