MMMMM you'll be surprised what the Peugeot engine has been used in. Ford Sierra's, Mk.2 (I think, the cortina Mk.5 type) granada's, of later the Rover 200 Series (H reg to P reg). The Siera and Granada used the old Push Rod OHV engines, hence the higer 400,000miles, the Rover uses the just killed off XUD OHC engine which does need "Looking After". My Xantia had hit 200,000miles on all original parts, but I did have to put rear struts on it...
ZX 1.9TD , how long do they live??

Peugeot did also Turbo charge the 2.5 in the 505 GTDT saloon only model ... So I think Ford just used it a bit more....

Believe it or not Malcolm - the old Ford Sierra Mk 1 and Ford Granada Mk 2 and 3 used Peugeot/Citroen Diesels - I think the engine came from the old 604 (I cant be sure though), it came in 2300cc (OHV) and 2500cc (OHV) both NA units. I cant be 100% sure as I aint had much to do with the 2.5 unit, but if my memory serves me correct Ford developed it further and fitted a turbo to it in the early 90's (for the Granada only). The Transit used a diffrent engine. Sorry to bore you with non Citroen stuff (im a Ford anorak) [:p]

The Cortina never came with a Diesel unit - be it Peugeot or any other makers. The Mk 1 and Mk2 Sierra came with a 2300cc NA unit, be it Peugeot/Citroen/Talbot. I said the old Granada (Mk2) used a Peugeot engine - a 2500cc 4 cyl ohv. The early years of (Ford use) this engine was in NA. It was turbocharged in the late 80's early 90's. The 1990 model Sierra used Fords own 1800cc ohc 4 cyl Endura E unit. The Fiesta, Escort and the Orion used Dagenham 1600cc and 1800cc after 1987 Endura NA units. I know knaff all about Citroen and Peugeot, but lots about Ford cars. My rant is complete.

The current shape of Rover 200 (i.e. the ones that look like a Rover 25) never had the PSA engine in, they have always had the Rover 'L' series diesel in them, as did the Rover 400 (45 shape) and the Rover 600. It was the previous generation Rovers (the ones that were developed jointly with Honda) that had the XUD in them.
The Rover 'L' series was direct injection when the majority of the competition was indirect, in fact the only engine that compared well with it in terms of economy and power was the Audi 1.9 TDI, the HDI hadn't come to be and common rail hadn't come about.

1st granada diesel used XD90 2.1L from earlier 504. Sierra used XD2 2.3L NA from later 504/505. It was the updated XD2 with 7 flywheel bolts. Later Ford Grandads (granadas) used 2.5L XD3.
Originally these engines were designed & built by Indenor a French engine company which was later taken over by peugeot. The engine family also included the XD88 1948CC NA with wet liners Fitted to the 404 D in the late sixties I think & 504 L diesel in 1974. I owned a 1974 404D. I dont think that they were ever sold in the UK. The first turbo charged one as far as I know was the XD2 2.3 Turbo fitted to the 604 in about 1977. As far as I know these engines were never fitted to Citroens

The 2300cc ohv fitted to the Sierra was never offered in a Turbo form (on Ford annyhow, and Citroen as you say). The Granada used a 2500cc ohv in both NA and Turbo form. When the Granada was updated in 1995 into the "new" Scorpio the 2.5 (still based on the old 2.5) unit was ever so subtley updated - improved piston rings, fueling and cam profile to make it more refined, smother and a cleaner exhaust.

Actually they used the turbo engine in the estate too, in 95bhp form. In some very rare saloons, they also used an intercooler and that engine had 110bhp. (Estates have no intercooler and only 95 bhp)
Great engines, just very very agricultural!
