BX Front Subrame Swap

Post by Ian Fearn »

The MOT has just been passed by bodging another plate on the front subframe of the GTI and its about time i got the only rust on the whole car sorted!
I've just mangaged to get a nearly new subframe for free [:)]
Anyway, any pitfalls to look out for?
The chap that gave me the subframe said when he put it on his car (just before he scrapped the car) the hardest thing was lining the height adjuster rod through a small hole on the subframe.

Shoot me down here but I'd be tempted to remove the engine and box then change the subframe, due to the amount of pipe work around the subframe. It will give you more space to do the swap and will make sure nothing is trapped or damaged in the operation. I suppose it can be done with the power plant in situ but my choice would be to create more space first.

not rearly prob all you do is unscrew mouting points for hight rod half way back up the car floor pan,let it hang down, other than this fairly straight forward as engine is not attached to sub frame, just disconect lower swivels let susp/legs just hang regards malcolm
