The ZX power steering is making a horrible noise, and the steering feels heavy at low speeds. The noise is similar to the one you would normally get at full lock, but it's apparent at low speeds and small movements in the steering. Plus slightly noisier!
Tyres are in good condition and there is plenty of steering fluid in the reservoir.
Is it going to be the pump, the rack or does it just need a good drain and fill?

id say change the power steering fluid, and see what happens, see if there are metalic particles in the fluid reservoir, if there is a significant ammount, id say the pump is on its way. I know chaning the fluid can make steering a hell of a lot lighter (or at least has done in a few cases in my experience). If after this there is no differenct, then look at changing the pump.
