Post by marco1 »

right here goes, got a gearbox ..but not convinced the one on my car has gone..went to local citroen garage told him a about wine /drone ,he said it could be drivshaft after all. bearings can wear but give no clicking sound on full lock test..whats your opinion?? love to get this sorted before i spend a fortune by the way they are £60 an hour. wanted £24+vat just to check for half an hour.thats why we dont go to them...

hmmmm,
well there is a support bearing on the RH driveshaft where it runs through the lower engine mounting, and this can get noisy.
To eliminate the g/box from your enquiries why not get up to speed and knock the car into neutral and see if the whining noise is still there? If it is, then it may be the shaft bearing or a wheel bearing.
My experience with ZX TD gearboxes on their way out is that they will whine most in 5th gear, does yours do this?
