Strange noises!!

Post by Rich »

Hello everyone,
As i have the week off work i've been under the Xantia doing a little maintenance, cleaning/lubing height correctors, stripping/cleaning brakes and so on. I even found a loose bolt on the turbo!! "Those ignorant Engleesh pigs, zey will never find zee loose bolt now, HA HA HA!!!" While on the front offside brake i noticed the rearmost suspension arm bush appears a little worn. The rubber seems to be separating from the metal sleeve and there are shiny bits on the sleeve where the rubber has worn it clean, the front bush appears to have been moving too. I am suspecting this has been the cause of a strange groaning/low-pitched squeak when driving slowly in heavy traffic or at about 30mph, although it goes away when i touch the brakes. Has anyone else had this trouble? If so, what is the solution? Can the bushes be replaced or do i need to replace the arm? Something else i wanted to say; i'm pretty new to Citroen cars, or any French car really, so my knowledge is limited, but i always try to help other members where possible. I am learning all the time and this forum is great, i am learning a great deal from you all. Thank you all!!
Sorry for the long posting!!
Best regards, Rich.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the info mate, much appreciated! Trouble is, after i had finished working over the brakes and height correctors and so on, i thought i'd go for a little test drive, and guess what!! Noise has gone(!) I will see how it goes, if it comes back i will see Andyspares about said bushes. I think i can maybe do that job myself, even if i have to have someone press the bushes on/off if they are tight.
Regards, Rich.
