drivers rear window

Post by shaunthesheep »

hi,
xantia 1.6, '93.
i checked my central locking relay yesterday (the one under the central console), had to remove the console including disconnecting of the rear window switches, now the drivers side rear window will not move.
i've checked the switch itself, that's ok. checked the fuse's (F10, F30) ok as well, even the switch on the door itself won't move the window.
it worked ok before removal of the central console.
could it be the relay in the door?, or is there another fuse that i've missed, or something else.

If it were me and the nearside window still operates ok, I'd go look at where I'd been messing about, i.e the console switch/wiring area.
There's no relay in the door just the motor and the switch, there is a relay to dissable the rear function via the dash switch, but you can just about forget that because the other window works.

Its getting power as the switch lights up checked last night.
checked the connections today.
got power on pins 2-4, value 0.5, NO POWER/CONTACT on pins 1-5, so it looks like a problem with power getting from the switch to the motor .
could it be the relay in the door?

well finally got around to looking at the window, found out that the motor is getting power, by bridging the contacts with a 12v test bulb, so the power is there. i now supect that the motor is dead.
how easy is this motor to change? & would it really be worth the time & money to do the job?

Try hitting the motor and see if it comes to life again! Worked on my BX for front passenger window while on holiday and functions perfectly if not dropped fully.
May be brushes sticking or overload contacts not resetting properly - one day when I've got nothing better to do I'll take it apart but in the meantime I'm training my wife not to lower it all the way!

cheers jeremy,
it worked a treat, window now goes up & down, also found out that due to the window being in-operative for just under a year the rubber seal had stuck to the window which didnt help matters.
cheers again

Glad to know impact engineering works again!
Try squirting the seal with some silicon spray - it will probably east the friction between the glass and the rubber and make it smoother.
