Feelin it for a mate & his 306

Post by rossnunn »

Mate of mine has a 306 GTi-6 & being the fully paid-up pug mechanic he decided to fit a set of kent cams.
All went well untill he fired it up & the thing sounded like a bag of nails. Worried he got another senior pug mech to take a look, who very professionally & being a 'senior' mechanic diagnosed it as Foobard.
He then sent it up to liverpool to a GTi- specialist who sent him back his 1 bent valves, a nackered oil spray bar & some other various bits.
He had assumed that he must ahve got the timing wrong until he saw the spray bar, after a very heated phone call to kent cams they have admited that they made the cams wrong & the lobes are not central to the shaft.
My mate loves his like a fat kid loves cake & is looking at a HUGE bill (3K+) I've told him Kent should pay for everything & if they don't scrap the engine & buy another one cos he'll get one cheaper.
Or do as I'd do which is to buy a written off , take the engine out, brake & sell off the rest - he might even make a profit.
So as you can imagine he needs some love. Give him some love people! [:o)]

If the problem was caused by the cam - and as Kent Cams admitted to have mis-manufactured the cams for that car - they should be bond to pay the repairs.
Take it to BBC too (it works in Portugal)

tHAT IS WELL OUT OF (whoops, bloody caps lock!)order. Yeah, if they've admitted it they had better get their cheque book out or I'd be round there wanting my pound of flesh. I cant see them having a leg to stand on...

That's not very lucky...Kent shams![V]. Send your mate my comisserations..I'm feeling his pain.
Some bloke wanted to buy the cams out of the 16v I'm breaking...said he was going to have them reprofiled to 285 deg. ??? Where, Why and how much??
It's almost linked to the original thread!![:)]
Has he made any other mods?? Don't you need some serious head work carrying out to justify uprated cams?

lol dunno his full spec but I know he's been doing bits.
I thought it was abit odd I mean kent cams have been making cams for a long time, why would they suddenly have such a huge problem & why did he buy them if people (on his forum) all have had similar problems? All questions I need to ask next time I speak to him.
