Which (Haynes) manual

Post by sketch »

Hey everybody,
I've recently bought a Citroen BX TGD (Type II) and I'm looking for a good service manual. Is there a specific manual I should buy or not buy?
My eye has fallen on different Haynes manuals specifically:
BX 1983-1994
Hatchback & Estate (inc GTi & 16 valve)
Petrol: 1.4 litre (1360cc), 1.6 litre (1580cc) & 1.9 litre (1905 cc)
NOT: 4x4

in combination with:
1.7 & 1.9 litre Diesel engine 1984-1996
1.7 litre (1769cc) & 1.9 litre (1905cc) incl. turbo-Diesel, in conjunction with the Visa/C15 (manual HAY-0620) and the BX (manual HAY-0908)

I would rather buy one manual to prevent loosing oversight. I'm a novice mechanic and I'd like to fix up some hydrolic issues and maybe change some belts.
Thank you in advance,
Tom Jansen

I agree brown manual with supplements to 1994 is the best, grey edition of diesel book is better than later blue one (but not much).
I found both in charity shops - after I'd bought new. you may find them on E-Bay - but be careful that the brown one covers the right age of car for you.

Thank you for the prompt replies!
My BX has ORGA #5463. That makes october 1991.
According to your replies, I need the brown manual for that make and date. It is not quite clear to me however if I still need a supplement diesel guide...
Thanks again for the replies!

Yes you will need the suppliment for the Diesel lump. I have the Brown Hanynes and it only covers the petrol engined ones. I have just bought a diesel engine suppliment off eBay UK for 2GBP (about 4 Euro).
I have a 1.7 TZD for my sins.
