Stronger sidewalls would increase fuel consumption because energy has to be expended in flexing them. Regardless of the strength of the sidewalls they will flex because the tyre has to distort to maintain its contact patch size, which is fixed by tyre pressure. If the sidewalls less, the tread has to flex more....
