xsara trailing arm bearing

Post by mipster »

I investigated a 'creaking' noise the wifes' xsara developed in the last week; didn't take long since the o/s rear wheel is leaning and touching the inner wheel arch.
No damage done, just cleaned up the paint work so far. Am I correct in thinking that the only cause of this is the trailing arm bearing?
Having a xantia I've paid quite a bit of attention to the (numerous) posts regarding the same job on that car. Does anybody know how it compares on the xsara? The haynes manual is no help.
I'm tempted not to DIY this one....

It's probably like the ZX in which case it will be a 'mare. Easiest will be to fit a new rear subframe from a low mileage write off, or a re-con unit, but I'd have thought it would be easier to get a used one in good cond for a relatively new Xsara.
