Insatlling Cruise Control on a Xantia mk2

Post by c.morewood »

Following on from the C5 thred. Is it possible to retrofit cruise control on a Xantia? Is the electrical connection generic on all Xantias or only the higher spec models?

Strange - the XM can be retrofitted with cruise control, as long as its the electronically controlled diesel (TD12 with EPIC or 2.5TD). Wonder why this won't work on the Xant?

I've had CC fitted to my 2.1 Xantia. Cost me about £350.

I prefer the much cheaper and more reliable "holding your foot steady on the throttle approach!"

Isn't cruise control outlawed in certain country's now? No doubt the UK will follow the rest of Europe like sheep.

they do sell kits that "lock the trotal cable" (but more complex than that but thats the jist of it. the xantia's system uses a vacume pump and non of the disel models have them as options (so there not caterd for. i am continuning to check it out as i have a vac pump on mine because its off a 406 :) so if i can make it work i will puiblish the info on how to :)

Thats the reason why it's a retrofit on electronically controlled engines - they already have fly-by-wire throttles - you don't need a vacuum pump or electric servo - its already fitted. This applies to 2.1, 2.5 and HDI's.

A little off-topic,
c.morewood, 155kmiles on the HDi - not bad!
Any complications with the engine, worth notice?

Hi Thunderbird,
No smooth and sweet since new.. it was a company car running the length of the M3 for 3 yrs and serviced every 6k rather than 12.5k ( companys request) And up to Aberdeen 2 or 3 times a year which it still does...hence the request for cruise control!! and in another post a 6 speed box.
I got it as a replacement for my BMW K100rt 366k on the same engine!!

My newest Xantia 1.9TD most definately has a vacuum pump it is on the end of the camshaft and is used to control the EGR and cold idle via some electrovalves.
The older one has no such pump, no EGR and the cold idle has one of those waxstats.

Yup but its still not a part associated with the CC (there is a complete section on PR-NET just for CC parts).
It is possible to get cc fitted to any car so its something that can be done but the Xantia as standard cant have it fitted to the Diesel variants (all the sales info on the Xantia I have shows this too).
Mr Gallagher, i believe you have a lot of sales info and general info on the Xantia, is it anything you know about?

In the UK cruise control was only available on V6 and 2.0 automatic models, I don't know about other markets.
Kowalski is correct in that 1.9 TD models from late 96 onwards were fitted with vacumn pumps, so I suppose it may be possible to fashion something up with some imagination.
If anyone can manage to do this I would be interested in putting it on my Xantia, I have it on my Berlingo and find it both very relaxing and useful in avoiding getting 'Zapped' by Gatso's when in unfamiliar areas.
One thing to bear in mind is that most insurance companies view fitting cruise control as a modification and hike up the premium.
