Xantia 1.9 TD Towing

Is there anything I should know about or do to my Xantia 1.9 TD before towing a folding caravan with it.

Fit a towbar?
Check that your water and oil levels are correct. Check your hydraulic fluid levels maybe the gearbox oil level too. A folding caravan isn't a big heavy thing to tow so beyond normal maintenance there isn't a lot to be done. The car will get hotter when towing so you want to make sure that your cooling system is working optimally.

What weight will 1.9 TD tow and what nose weight should I watch for????[?]

1.9 TD will comfortably tow 1200Kg - however this is nearing 100% of its Kerb weight - If you are a novice tower dont pull more than 85% of the cars weight (about 1100kg max) -
I recently pulled about 1600kgs with the 90BHP HDi Xantia - but then Im have a lot of experience towing and made full use of the HP suspension set up on the Xantia - no way would I have done it with the equivelant 406.
The towball weight should be between 50 and 75KG (75Kg maximum).

I once towed a 5.3L V12 Jag for about a mile with a BX 19RD - not something I would try again in a hurry [:D]

Our caravan has a all up weight of 1300 kgs.On the 85% rule of thumb we tow at about 93%.Never had any probs at all.Still has the same spheres since getting the car 46k ago.
I put my car on the weighbridge at work once with nothing in it & the fuel light on.It was 102kg`s heavyier than the book says.
Max nose weight is 75-85kg.Less for estates.Every where gives different limits i find though.
